Defending champions Adelaide Strikers kept their BBL08 finals hopes alive with victory over Hobart Hurricanes in their last game and now host Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
Strikers won when the two sides met in the opening game of BBL08 back in December. But they face a fight to qualify for the playoffs ahead of the showdown with the already-eliminated Heat.
Head to Head
The Strikers have won four of the last five meetings between the sides, including winning by five wickets in this season’s opening game. Overall, the record stands at 5-3 in the Strikers’ favour, but at the Adelaide Oval it is 3-1 to the Heat.
The visiting side has won seven of the eight matches between the Strikers and the Heat.
Strikers have won four of the last five matches against the Heat.
Heat have won three of the four matches played at this venue.
The Strikers (W5, L7) were disappointing for much of the game against ladder leaders the Hobart Hurricanes but they showed they can be destructive on their day to claim a crucial win.
Jake Weatherald (318 runs) and Alex Carey (278 runs) still remain their best bet to keep the defending champions steaming on.
With the ball, it is the consistent and ever-dangerous Rashid Khan (16 wickets) who continues to be the torch-bearer. The Strikers will hope for some support from the likes of Michael Neser and Peter Siddle.
After a disappointing season that has already ended their progression hopes, the Heat enjoyed a rare home win over the Perth Scorchers. Chris Lynn (385 runs) still packs a punch as one the most dangerous BBL players around, but the Heat haven’t been consistent enough.
Bowling has been up and down, with the responsibilities shared largely by the duo of Mujeeb Ur Rahman (12 wickets) and Josh Lalor (14 wickets).
The Strikers have everything to play for against a Heat side that has nothing to gain. The Strikers need to continue winning to stay in the finals race and they should do that.
Prediction: Strikers win ($1.64 MadBookie)
