So your long lost Aunty sent you $50 for Christmas. In reality it’s not going to go far is it? Might as well invest it on Boxing Day …
Here are our best bets from around the country.
Race one, number one. ZALATTE (R1#1, $$1.70) can extend her picket fence at career start number three in the Sydney opener, where she meets a weaker field than the one she rounded up at Rosehill last start. The step up to 1600m is a positive and she looks a multi banker for the day.
The feature at Caulfield is the Listed Christmas Stakes and we can’t go past the three-year-old NATIVE SOLDIER (R7#3, $3.30). He’s shown he knows his way around this venue before and after a good pipe-opener last start meets an average field of older sprinters here. Everything sets up perfectly for him.
SPIRIT AND FIRE (R6#1) gets to his right race here. Last start at Doomben he was caught back and wide, running home well for third beaten less than a length. The rail is true at the Sunny Coast which means he’ll hook out wide and charge down the crown of the long straight and can reel them all in.
It is a case of returning to the scene of the crime for EASY BEAST (R4#5), who is twice a winner from four goes at Morphettville. He drops back from two fitness-building 1200m runs to the 1050m dash which should suit his free rolling style. Expect him to ping from barrier one and lead them a merry dance.
