Midweek Best Bets

Mid-week racing is highlighted in Sydney this week at Randwick-Kensington, a small card only featuring the eight races and is a unique meeting as no race is over 1800m.

Randwick-Kensington

Race 1: Starla should be safe money here in the first, winless shouldn’t be a worry. Filly out of Snitzel has a strong pedigree and the Waller-Mcdonald combination is almost too good to pass up here. Irish Angel provides terrific value if you’re looking for it ($7.50 ClassicBet), another Waller runner and is resuming here after a very unlucky first campaign. Her trial was great. Willowheart is debuting here, has filled all placings in three trials so far. Has done plenty in the trails and has earned respect.

Race 2: Faretti didn’t have a great opening start, was unlucky and deserves forgiveness. Has trialled really well since being scratched last month, comes down in opposition and has a good draw. Axe has been solid in trials, had Nash Rawiller on board last trial and he takes up the saddle again. Good each-way value ($5.50 ClassicBet). Ziedrich failed last start on heavy track, forget that run and focus on first up performance last prep (2nd). Will come here fitter and must be included.

Race 3: Leningrad comes here chasing the same distance as last start where he ran well, will again look to lead from the start with a suitable draw and should be better suited for last start. Rancho Notorious will give his all as always, has won two out of last three including last start here. Draw will be helpful and Bowman is always a huge plus. Bring The Magic provides a great each-way option ($11.00 ClassicBet). Track didn’t suit over this trip last time out and will like it better here.

Race 4: Duchess of Lennox comes down in class here after two runs just under the mile to open the prep. Clearly the class horse in the race and is a solid price ($3.10 ClassicBet), will be primed for this. Johnny Vinko carries a big weight here (61kg), will be fitter here third up and the draw gives every chance. Win last week was impressive. Maid of Ore won from a long way back last start, has won last two and commands respect.

Race 5: Kaecilius did too much work early last week over this trip, was brave right to the end but will need to learn from mistakes. Can improve and will be hard to stop if he does. Mccormack missed the jump last time and didn’t recover quickly enough, barrier behaviour not normally an issue and if he finds those manners he should be ok. Distance will suit as he will be peaking for this, price is worth a look ($7.00 ClassicBet). Camp Rifle has two wins from three starts, older opposition shouldn’t be a worry and has trialled in metropolitan meetings previously so metro debut also not a factor.

Race 6: Bigboyroy was good upon resumption in his first run as a gelding, hit the line hard to finish second and will be better for the run. This trip a massive plus – great price ($4.60 ClassicBet). Saint Ambrose got a gem of a ride to salute last start, will be better for that run and should improve again. Vienna Rain has impressed in opening two runs, only win is at this distance and isn’t without a chance. Hooray Henry has been all class in opening two runs. Has a proper turn of foot and will like it from this barrier, has won over the trip before.

Race 7: Regimental Band hasn’t missed the quinella in first three starts, was all honours at Wyong first up and should have the edge here. Comes here fitter. Alison of Tuffy is showing overs ($9.00 ClassicBet), has been really good this prep and found the line terrifically last start. Pattern didn’t suit her last time but she kept on fighting and keeps getting fitter. Autumn was great upon resumption last start, will come here much better for the run and will give herself every chance. Keep in thoughts.

Race 8: Coterie is resuming here, blinkers have been removed here. Does run well fresh and has trialled terrifically with Nash in the saddle for both trials. Broken Arrows was brave last time out, will be happy with the draw this time out. His best is well good enough to win this. Trumbull showed good signs first-up last start and will be fitter for that run. Unbeaten over this trip and has second up form from last prep, great value ($5.00 ClassicBet) and should be worth an each-way punt.
