Midweek racing takes us to Sandown and Gosford this Wednesday with some interesting punting opportunities.
Sandown stages an eight race program in Melbourne, while eight races are also set for Gosford which flies the midweek flag in New South Wales.
We’ve picked out some of the best chances to concentrate your punting on!
BLINDER ($3.41 ClassicBet) lines up for his second run this preparation and should be hard to beat in Race 6 of the day at Sandown. The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained galloper resumed in the recent Bendigo Guineas (1400m) and ran on well from a midfield spot to finish 5th behind Mystery Love. He should be an improver at his second run back and at his previous preparation he worked through the grades before running a narrow runner-up to the handy O’Tauto before being put away. He should get a beautiful run from barrier 2 and with the veteran jockey, Dwayne Dunn, on board he will go very close.
The final event of the day at Sandown shapes as an interesting one and there are a number of chances but after leading all the way to win here on March 27, SILENT ROAR, ($3.01 TopBetta) can repeat the dose for the Hawkes stable. The daughter of Street Cry likes to go forward in her racing and won by nearly three lengths from Music Of The Night at her latest when second up. Prior to that she was close up behind Kazio and at her third run this time in she should be strong. The step up in trip holds no concerns and she maps very well for this as there aren’t too many of her rivals that look like they will go forward.
After a number of competitive runs in stronger company, the Godolphin galloper, HARMATTAN, ($3.01 MadBookie) gets her chance to break through when she lines up in Race 6 of the day at Gosford. The four-year-old has finished two lengths behind them at her last two start, which have both been at Group 3 level. She chased hard two starts ago over the 1600m in the Aspiration Quality (1600m) behind Nettoyer before fading on her run in the Epona Stakes (1900m). The drop back in both class and distance will suit and she has drawn to get a perfect run from barrier 2 with Hugh Bowman on board.
This looks to be a nice race for the promising MILITARY ZONE ($2.11 TopBetta) to kick off his campaign. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained three-year-old has had six starts for three wins and the most recent of those came in the Gosford Guineas (1600m) towards the end of last year. He was slightly unlucky when resuming with a 4th at his last campaign but this time around the stable have had three trials in preparation for his return. The son of Epaulette is one that looks like he can progress further and this might be a stepping stone to some harder races later on.
