New Year’s Day Best Bets: Flemington and Randwick

New Year, change of luck if you need it!

The first racing action of 2019 comes Flemington and Randwick on New Year’s Day and we’re out to get the year off to the perfect start.

We’ve picked out the best chances in both Melbourne and Sydney for the New Year’s Day racing.

Flemington

Race 2 Long Leaf, Mr Money Bags and Beacon are the fancied runnersm but SOCIAL SPIN ($3.10 ClassicBetis the one to back. He ran into a smart one in Behemoth at Moonee Valley first up and his run last start at Flemington was huge, hitting the front a long way from home and just getting run down in the shadows by Phoneme who had the perfect run. Third-up he looks well placed to win. Long Leaf’s third in the Sandown Guineas behind Group One class horses Ringerdingding and Seabrook shows he’s the best horse in this race, however six-weeks off into a summer preparation means we can take him on.

Race 8  LAURE ME IN ($2.60 TopBetta) had absolutely no luck last start at Caulfield behind Silentz and Critical Thinking and was a genuine moral beaten.  He is on the quick six-day backup but at Pakenham two starts ago he won despite a three-day backup from racing at Sandown midweek. From barrier 12, Chris Caserta can ride Laure Me In like the best horse in the race and he should be winning.

Randwick

Race 1 The Chris Waller-trained GAYATRI ($2.30 TopBetta) can make it a winning start in the first Randwick race of 2019. The four-year-old has won twice in her four career starts and was a luckless 3rd at her most recent run, which was at Kembla Grange on December 15. On that occasion, the daughter of Pierro was heavily backed and had to shuffle off heels early on in the straight before rocketing home. The step up to the 1800m looks to be in her favour and she will be saving plenty of ground from the barrier.
