Group 1 action comes at Doomben for the Doomben 10,000 and Morphettville for the South Australian Derby.
Metro racing also comes at Caulfield, which stages the Melbourne action this weekend.
We’ve picked out the best bets for your weekend.
The Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained PROPELLE ($2.51 ClassicBet) went to a new level last start, she ran a Group standard figure, running two-lengths slower than benchmark to the 600m and coming home 15.6 lengths above benchmark for the last 600m to record an overall figure of 13.6 lengths above benchmark, running the fastest last 200m, 400m, 600m and 800m of the meeting at Caulfield. She is the bet of the day at Caulfield.
Making her QLD debut, the Grahame Begg-trained OUR LIBRETTO ($5.26 TopBetta) looks well-placed here and if she can get a genuine pace set up front, she will be storming home when it counts. The lightly-raced five-year-old has had just 11 starts but has saluted on five occasions with two of those victories being over the 2000m trip. Beautifully bred by O’Reilly out of a Zabeel mare, she is bred to stay all day. She is drawn nicely in gate five but will drop back at the start and look for some cover behind the field before letting loose in the run home. I rate her a big chance here.
The Will Clarken-trained PARSIFAL ($2.61 ClassicBet) recorded a career personal best figure of four-lengths above benchmark first-up at Warrnambool and go on with things here second-up. The four-year-old paraded like a complete moral at The Bool and was backed from $2.80 into as short as $1.90 at the jump. Jamie Kah rode him like a good thing, sitting outside the leader and he put them away easily, running 9.2 lengths above benchmark for the final 600m, running the fastest last 400m, 600m and 800m of the meeting. He maps perfectly from barrier four and can win again.
