Saturday is all about Winx once again as the star mare bids for win number 31 in a row in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m).
That race is one of three Group 1s on a big day of racing with the Surround Stakes (1400m) joining it at Randwick and Flemington staging the Australian Guineas (1600m).
We pick out the best bets for your weekend.
SHE’S SO HIGH ($2.61 ClassicBet) looks very hard to beat. First-up last preparation she won the listed Moomba Plate (1100m). She then beat home the likes of Viridine and Nature Strip in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes and won the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m). She has had a jumpout and a trial leading up to this so I have no doubts she will be fit enough to win.
BRILLIANT CHOICE ($3.71 TopBetta) broke his maiden status with a win over the future Group One winner Nakeeta Jane at Kensington in September and has been gelded since. He returned at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago and looked to have plenty of improvement from the mounting yard. The fact that he still has plenty of improvement made his victory even more impressive, as he absorbed early pressure and still kicked away on the home turn. He maps very well from barrier five and looks good value.
Race 8 – Australian Guineas
The form of HAAMES ($6.26 TopBetta) doesn’t read to well as he was six lengths off the pace two starts back and then 4.2 lengths 7th last start. He was clearly unlucky last start and only got clear at the 40m mark and started to motor. He’s ready to peak sixth-up and maps well from barrier 4 and looks a nice price.
CASTELVECCHIO ($4.11 ClassicBet) is the best horse in this race. He was an impressive winner over this trip on debut and then he stormed home to take out the $2 million Inglis Millenium (1200m). He’s bred to get longer and has won on natural ability so far. He possesses an explosive turn of foot, and with enough pace on up front, he can finish over the top of the small field.
